SUPPLEMENTAL NEEDS TRUSTS FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

"Family members should take advantage of these special rules to help their loved ones maintain the best possible quality of life.”

Supplemental Needs Trusts (SNTs) allow people with mental or physical disabilities to have access to extra funds and keep their Medicaid and other government benefits. Trusts are preferable to disinheriting a disabled child or grandchild, or leaving funds to a sibling to take care of the disabled individual.

There are numerous types of SNTs, such as Third-Party funded, Self-Settled and Pooled. You can create a Trust during your lifetime (“inter vivos”) or through your will. Depending on the situation, one may be preferable to another. My office can determine which kind of Trust is right for your family member.
